Spanish V
 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish IV or special permission of the instructor.

Spanish V is a one-semester, full-block course which expands the foundation for acquiring a second language by using the basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

 

World Languages and Cultures District Standards

Standard I: Students communicate in a foreign language while demonstrating literacy in all four essential skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Standard II: Students acquire and use knowledge of other cultures while developing foreign language skills.

 

Level IV students will:

    •  Identify the main idea from simple instructions or conversations, basic survival situations and familiar topics 
    •  Apply learned basic pronunciation and intonation patterns 
    •  Express and support personal opinions 
    •  Describe and narrate using learned vocabulary 
    •  Maintain brief conversations on familiar topics 
    •  Ask and answer questions 
    •  Read and derive meaning from a variety of target language sources 
    •  Write descriptions, narrations, and expressions/support of personal opinions 
    •  Demonstrate knowledge of aspects of the Spanish culture such as daily life, education, history, government, economics, business and the arts 
    • Distinguish similarities and differences among cultures 
     

Functions: All functions learned in Intro, Spanish I, II, III, IV, plus:

    •  Sequence in the past tense 
    •  Express doubt and uncertainty 
    •  Persuade 
    •  Hypothesize 
    •  Interpret 
    •  Create with the language, such as: write and stage a cultural play 
    •  Analyze literary and artistic works 

Content: Vocabulary learned in Intro, Spanish I, II, III, VI, plus:

    •  Social and environmental terms 
    •  Love and personal relationships 
    •  Theatrical terms 
    •  Art terms 
    •  Careers


Structure: All structures learned in Intro, Spanish I, II, III, VI, plus:

    •  Use present and past perfect tense, conditional tense and nosotros commands 
    •  Use the following: all compound tenses, imperfect subjunctive, si clauses, passive voice, 
      conjunctions/impersonal phrases with subjunctive mood.


Culture: All culture learned in Intro, Spanish I, II, III, VI, plus:

    •  Distinguish cultural similarities and differences 
    •  Recognize artists of Spain 
    •  Recognize various historical, political, and social trends as expressed through art and literature

 

Calificación:
100% - 90% = A
89% - 80% = B
79% - 70% = C
69% - 60% = D
59% - 0% = F
 
Calificación will consist of formative quizzes, summative exams, weekly journal, written compositions, special graded projects, BOPs, selected worksheets, oral presentations and situations, and group-graded projects and assignments. The learner will be tested for the proficiency level expected in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. All assignments, projects, etc. are due when called for – no late work is accepted. It is the responsibility of each student to consult the teacher for makeup work needed.
 

Asistencia/Llegar tarde
Most class work and activities are done in class. Therefore, regular class attendance is necessary for success in a World Languages and Cultures class. Class begins on time. Das BOP provides review and practice during the beginning of the period. If you are not there you cannot receive the benefits of those activities. Unexcused absences and tardies follow school policy.

  • Always be on time
  • Bring text, materials, assignments, paper, writing implement, etc. to class
  • Come to class every day prepared to ACTIVELY learn
  • Complete assignments on time
  • Be a good active listener
  • Do the BOP activity every day, whether it is in a written or oral format
  • Respect the teacher and fellow students
  • Respect the property of others
  • Work cooperatively and on task in groups to maximize learning
  • Clean up after yourself when you consume food and drink in class
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and intellectual independence
  • Be willing to deal with unfamiliar material or different teaching/learning strategies
  • Set high standards for both honesty and personal excellence

  • Adhere to district code of conduct. Harrassment: World Languages and Cultures promotes world peace and unity and honors diversity, therefore...
    Zero tolerance for any type of harrasment in the classroom;
    Student needs to report any case of harassment to the teacher;
    Student needs to say no to person harassing him/her and try to resolve issue.

Horario de la Profesora: You will have a maximum of one week from the date of your return to school after an absence, in order to seek, complete and turn in all work missed during that particular absence. “La Profesora” will be available for makeup work or extra help in Room 102. More and more universities are requiring a minimum of three to four years of one language for admission or graduation.
More and more careers in this global society require the ability to be able to communicate in another language and to be culturally aware.

    •  En Espanol 3 ($56.00) and Galeria de Arte y Vida ($44.00) TEXTS ARE TO REMAIN COVERED ALL YEAR. 
    •  2 Notebooks: for taking notes, and for weekly journal entries 
    •  Spanish/English dictionary
    •  3.5 disk (to be used periodically for word processing, bring only when notified)
