LHS now subscribes to Turnitin.com

LHS now subscribes to Turnitin.com in an effort to help LHS students recognize plagiarism and learn to correctly cite sources they use in their writing. For students to be able to use the service, teachers need to set up their classes with assignments. Then students need to enroll themselves in the classes to submit their work.

Most students don’t intentionally plagiarize. Instead, they may not know how to cite correctly. It is important to understand what has to be cited, how to cite it and why it is important to cite sources. Students, use your First Class email account to receive the Originality Reports which identifies areas of your papers that appear to be plagiarized.

Here are some ideas to help you be original in your writing.

  • Ask for help if you are having trouble putting something in your own words; paraphrasing is difficult sometimes.
  • Be sure you understand the teacher’s expectations for correctly citing sources.
  • Learn to use quotes, in-text citations and paraphrasing.
  • Know how to use the resources available to help you cite correctly.
  • Submit your work to Turnitin.com to ensure its originality.
  • Know the due date and plan ahead to submit the work to Turnitin.com with enough time to make corrections before turning it in to your teacher.
  • Save your documentation, print outs, notes, rough drafts, bibliography until you get your graded paper back from your teacher.
