Toni Theisen
Department Head

Toni Theisen is the World Languages and Cultures department chair. She is also the Thompson School District World Languages and Cultures curriculum representative.

Education:
  • Masters of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching and French: University of Northern Colorado.
  • Masters of Arts in Education of Diverse Learners: University of Phoenix.
  • World Languages Other than English National Board Certification in French. Toni was a part of the first group of national World Languages and Cultures teachers to receive this certification in 2002.

    Ana Rojas-Rymes

    Ana Royas-Rymes teaches upper level Spanish classes, including classes that can receive college credit.

    Kendra Omlid

    Bio: Kendra Omlid lived in Germany with a host family for a year in high school and later studied abroad at the University of Hamburg for a semester. She also organized and led seminars for high school exchange students in Germany . She is a co-sponsor of the LHS International Club.

    Genie Rys

    Bio: Genie Rys lived in Spain for two years and returns to Spain when possible. She has taught Spanish at kindergarten through college levels as well as ESL at the high school level. She has two college-age daughters and likes to run, hike, and travel.

    Deanna Dykstra

    Bio: Deanna K. Dykstra earned her B.A. and M.A. in Spanish from CSU. She taught at South Dakota State University for 5 years before moving back to Colorado.

    Ms. Dykstra traveled to Bolivia in the summer of 2007 where she boated on the highest navegable lake in the world, ate llama and picked coffee. In October 2007, she co-presented 2 papers at the National Indian Education Association's annual conference in Honolulu. In spring 2007, she and Ms. Rys presented a session on using storyboards in the language classroom at the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers' Conference.

    Ms. Dykstra is a fourth-generation Coloradoan. She and her family also own a toffee company in Fort Collins, which occupies some her freetime in the fall. Her son Jacob helps more with the business than she does!

    Ms. Dykstra is advisor to the Knitting Club .

    John Parks

    Bio: “Profe” Parks has lived in Ecuador, Mexico, and Spain. He has taught Spanish, English, and French at high school, junior high, and to adult learners. Before that, he led bicycle tours throughout Europe and the American West. He is very pleased to be teaching here at LHS, as he is passionate about Spanish and engaging the minds of high school learners. He is also the Chess Club sponsor.
