Biography:

Toni Theisen currently serves as:

  • World Languages and Cultures department chair at LHS.
  • Thompson School District World Languages and Cultures curriculum representative.
  • Education:

  • Masters of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching and French: University of Northern Colorado.
  • Masters of Arts in Education of Diverse Learners: University of Phoenix.
  • World Languages Other than English National Board Certification in French. Toni was a part of the first group of national World Languages and Cultures teachers to receive this certification in 2002.
  • Foreign language professional activities:

  • Presented several sessions and workshops for national, regional, and state conferences.
  • Authored several articles on multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction and language learning strategies.
  • Organizes and leads student travel and home stay programs in France.
  • Professional committees membership:

  • Task force for the Colorado Model Content Standards Project.
  • Teacher Standards Committee for Colorado Teacher Licensure.
  • Standards Committee for the National Board for Professional Teacher Standards for World Languages Other Than English.
  • Offices held:

  • President of the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers(CCFLT).
  • Colorado president for the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).
  • Central States Conference (CSC) Board of Directors member from 1989-1993.
  • Local Arrangements Chair for the CSC, SWCOLT and CCFLT Joint Languages Conference (1988).
  • Program Chair for the CSC Indianapolis (1991).
  • Assistant Local Chair for the CSC, SWCOLT, PNCFL, and CCFLT joint conference (1995).
  • Co-Chair of Local Arrangements for the CCFLT/SWCOLT Joint Languages Conference in Denver (2003).

    Currently serves as:

  • Executive Board member for the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Language (ACTFL).
  • National program chair for the ACTFL 2004 and 2005 annual conferences.
  • Co-author of:

  • Bon Voyage , the middle school textbook.
  • C'est a Toi, the EMC/Paradigm French Level I and Level II series textbooks.
  • Honors and awards:

  • The ACTFL Nelson Brooks Award for the Teaching of Culture.
  • The Colorado Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
  • The Southwest Conference on Language Teaching (SWCOLT) awards: Outstanding Teacher Award and Excellence in Teaching Award.
  • The 2002 Genevieve Overman Memorial Service Award from the Colorado Congress of Foreign Language Teachers (CCFLT).
