Patty Stroud

Biography: The Journey

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta Canada where I was fortunate to be able to faithfully down hill skiing in Banff. I LOVE SKIING! An outdoors woman at heart, I enjoy hiking, canoeing, riding horses, camping and water-skiing. Oh yah, I am a Flames and Eagles fan.

In 1982, I moved to Sandpoint, Idaho. My husband and I built a log home 17 miles from the nearest town. Yes, I even peeled the logs by hand. Aspiring to be the wilderness family with no running water or electricity did not turn out to be as amazing as the show. After a couple of years, we moved back to town where we ran a freight company and postal shipping depot.

In the mid-eighties I got an AAS degree in broadcast communications and worked for five years as a radio announcer. During this time I taught skiing and skating with the Special Olympics. This experience sparked my heart's desire to become a Special Education teacher and to move to Colorado.

In 1999 I graduated from UNC with a BA in Public Relations and a graduate endorsment in profound needs. In 2005 I completed a Special Education generalist endorsement.

Here at LHS I teach the Resource English classes, Life Skills English and Reading Essentials. Students are exposed to the breadth of the regular English curriculums for each of the grade levels. This includes Shakespeare, poetry, recommended literature that is leveled, writing, speech communication and technology skills.
My students are amazing!

I also have two children of my own.
