Army Department Rates JROTC Program an Honor Unit with Distinction

On April 4, the JROTC program had its formal inspection conducted by the Department of the Army. This inspection is held every 4 years and validates the JROTC program.

The inspection focuses on the Cadet Staff Leaders and their ability to successfully execute the program as part of their Leadership Labs. All cadets are graded on an in- ranks inspection, overall attendance on the day of the inspection, drill and color guard performance, curriculum knowledge, and individual staff leader section responsibilities.

There are 3 possible levels of rating for the overall inspection performance.
The Thompson School District JROTC Program was recognized as an 'Honor Unit with Distinction' and received an overall rating of 97.7%. This places the JROTC program in the top 8% of all the 1435 JROTC programs nation wide.
This rating also enables the Senior Army Instructor to nominate up to 3 cadets annually to each of the Service Academies if they meet the academic, physical and leadership requirements.

Curriculum:
  • Written & Verbal Communications.
  • Foundations for success: Study skills, conflict resolution, goal setting, planning for after high school ( college & civilian work force ), resume writing, interview techniques.
  • Leadership Theory & Application
  • Health / Wellness & Physical Fitness
  • U.S. & World Geography
  • Integrated Civics
    • Cadets successfully completing 2 years of JROTC receive high school civics credit required for graduation .
      Extracurricular Teams:
    • Drill team and Color Guards:
    • Teams compete state-wide in competitions. Color Guards perform for civic organizations, parades, athletic events and school opening ceremonies.
      • Cadet Academic Achievements:
    • Admissions to: West Point, U.S. Air Force Academy, Emory-Riddle University, Colorado State University, University of Wyoming, University of Colorado, Colorado School of Mines.
    • 4 year ROTC scholarships .
    • Non-ROTC scholarships & grants.
    • 47% of all cadets achieve high school academic honor roll.
      • Cadet Staff Leadership
    • The corps of cadets is run by selected staff leaders who plan & execute the program annually.
    • Cadets are selected based on academic achievement, commitment to the JROTC program, demonstrated leadership in and out of the JROTC program and involvement in school activities.
      • Community Service & Service Learning:
    • All cadets perform numerous hours of community service as part of the JROTC & Integrated Civics curriculum.
    • Each let level class performs an annual service learning project ( planned, performed & evaluated by cadets in the class ) which directly benefits a community organization and individuals.
      • If you join JROTC, you will:
      Develop skills in communication, leadership, citizenship, map reading, drills and ceremonies.
      Participate in the President's Physical Fitness Program and first aid training.
