Each student is urged to visit the links provided below and/or the LHS career center for the most complete details of each scholarship. As we are serving simply to share information with LHS students, deadlines are subject to change without notice from the scholarship source. Check websites often.

10/14United States Senate Youth Program: 1 Week trip to Washington, DC all expenses paid +$5000 scholarship. Junior or Senior currently serving in an elected capacity; outstanding reading, writing, speaking and thinking, extra-curricular and community services. Outstanding academic achievement. 10/15The Al Neuharth Free Spirit Scholarship and Conference Program: Must be a high school senior involved in the journalism program. Each scholarship winner receives a $1,000 college scholarship and will travel to Washington, D.C. for a journalism conference at the Newseum (www.newseum.org). All travel-related expenses will be covered by the Freedom Forum. The next conference is scheduled on March 13-18, 2010. To apply, please visit the Freedom Forum website.

10/30 Horatio Alger Scholarship:A total of 104 scholarships in the amount of $20,000 are awarded. This scholarship targets students with minimum 2.0 GPA, financial need, and who have overcome obstacles in their lives. 10/31 Coca-Cola Scholarship Foundation: Full time high school senior planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution. This scholarship is for the well-rounded student with leadership skills and active in school and community service. 11/1 Ron Brown Scholar Program for African-American students: Ten scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $10,000 per year for 4 yrs. Totaling $40,000 for each student. This scholarship may be used at any college/university and is not designated for any particular major. This scholarship honors the late U.S. Secretary of Commerce and provides assistance to seniors who excel academically, exemplify exceptional leadership potential, and make an impact on their communities. 11/1 VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition: National contest. Annual recorded essay competition for 9th- 12th grade students. Each state winner is awarded a trip to Washington, D.C. for a share of the National Scholarship. Write and record a 3-5 minute essay on assigned topic. 2009 topic: “Does America Still Have Heroes?” Grand prize scholarship award is $30,000. You must see Miss Daniels in the LHS Career Center for an entry form.

11/2 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: An opportunity for young people to be recognized for volunteer community service. The top volunteers are named in each state and receive $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Five national winners will receive $5,000 each. 11/2 Elks "Most Valuable Student" Scholarship Award: Over $2,000,000 awarded/500 special 4-yr. awards. Financial need, leadership qualities. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks. http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.Cfm

11/2 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships A total of over $2.2 million is awarded to 500 high school seniors. There are a number of excellent scholarships available. 11/19 “What Memorial Day Means to Me” Essay Contest: Grand Prize: $10,000 savings bond. Students grades 7-12 are eligible to apply. Essay, 350 words or less. Please see Ms. Daniels in the Career Center for details on the contest. Applications need to be turned in to Ms. Daniels in the Career Center by the morning of November 19, 2009. 11/23 (for registration in the contest and 11/28 for essay submission) First Freedom Student Competition (Essay Contest) This competition is open to students in grades 9-12. Students must be sponsored by an English or social studies teacher. 12/4 Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association Washington, D.C. Youth Tour Contest: Contest open to current juniors who are PVREA consumers. All expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in July 2010. 12/10 Daughters of the American Revolution (Colorado) Honorary State Regents’ American History Scholarship: Up to $2,500 per year. For high school seniors in the top 20% of their class.  Must take a minimum of 24 credit hours of American History and American Government classes while in college.   Requires letter of sponsorship, personal statement to apply. 12/10 Daughters of the American Revolution (Colorado) Virginia Leyda Roberts Nursing Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship for high school seniors  planning to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited college.   Requires letter of sponsorship from local chapter. Please see Ms. Daniels in the LHS Career Center for complete details including chapter information and for an application.

12/11Comcast Leaders and Achievers: GPA 2.8 or higher, commitment to community service, positive attitude, leadership skills, academic achievement. Students cannot directly apply, they must be nominated by their high school. To be considered, leave your name with Ms. Daniels in the Career Center or your counselor. A nominee for the 2009-2010 year has been selected, please check back next year.

12/15 Hispanic Annual Salute:This scholarship is a $2,000 volunteer award. Any student is eligible who has made notable volunteer contributions to the Hispanic community. 2.5 GPA or higher. Essay, letters of recommendation. Check out the Hispanic Annual Salute scholarship application.

12/15 AXA Achievement Scholarship: Applicants are asked to tell about an outstanding achievement they have accomplished in a non-academic activity or project. The accomplishment may be a long-term achievement, an activity or a project that occurred in their school, in the community or in the workplace. 12/28 The Jaycees and JCI Senators of Colorado Foundation Scholarship Program: Students who plan to continue their education at a college, university, or vocational school. Financial need, community involvement, leadership, honors/awards, employment are all considered with application. Personal statement required. 12/31 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award Program: This award is for seniors who plan to attend an accredited (not for profit) two or four-year college, university, or vocational school next fall. Students must demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through one or more of the following areas: starting your own business, participating in organizations such as DECA, FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, etc. GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT scores are also considered. 1/3 Colorado Women's Sports Fund: Twenty $500 scholarships in calendar year 2010. These scholarships are to encourage athletic participation in all sports to help women and girls achieve “the next level” in their sport. Applicants do not need to be enrolled in any academic school or institution. The scholarships are open to females of any age and for any sport. 1/4 Kaiser Permanente Diversity Scholarship: High school senior, minimum 2.7 GPA who belongs to a diverse group that is historically underrepresented in careers in health care industry.  Student is evaluated on academic achievement, character qualities, community outreach / volunteering, diverse populations / under-representation in health care& public health professions, financial need, health care or public health program of study. 1/8 8 Elks National Foundation Legacy Awards:A total of up to 250 awards in the amount of $4,000 each over 4 years is granted. Applicants must be the high school senior child or grandchild of a living Elk member (who joined on or before 4/1/07). There are a number of excellent scholarships available. 1/9 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay: Must be a student in grades 9-12, essay required. Must be nominated by a current or former teacher at the same high school student is attending. One $10,000, one $1,000, and up to five $500 scholarships awarded. More details and contest information at the JFK Library web site.

1/11 Gates Millennium Scholars:Students are eligible to be considered for this award if they are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American. Applicants must be citizens, national or legal permanent residents of the United States. A minimum GPA of 3.3 is required. Student must be nominated and have a recommendation. Leadership through participation in community service and school extracurricular activities is a plus. Finally, students must meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (demonstrating financial need). More information at the Gates Millennium Web site

1/15 MENSA Education and Research Foundation: : Awards of $500 to $1,000. US citizen and attend accredited US institution of post-secondary education for fall, . Essay explaining career academic and/or vocational goals. Visit the MENSA web site for complete details and an entry form.

1/15 Society of Automotive Engineers Scholarships: Multiple scholarships for Seniors who are majoring in an engineering related field. SAT/ACT scores; Honors and activities. Essay required. 1/20 Greenhouse Scholars: For graduating seniors entering a 4-year accredited institution in the fall. Must be a U.S Citizen with a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA. Up to $5,000 per year for high performing, under resourced students. 1/29 Sam Walton Community Scholarship: Graduating senior with 2.5 GPA or above, must have taken ACT or SAT, Financial need, extra-curricular and community activities. May not be the relative of a Wal-Mart employee.  For complete details and to apply please click here .

1/30 Colorado Council on High School/College Relations This scholarship is for Colorado seniors who will attend a participating college/university within the State of Colorado. Since CCHS/CR is a voluntary organization, the primary selection criterion for this scholarship will be Volunteerism/Community Service. Sixteen $1,500 scholarships will be awarded for the purpose of defraying tuition costs. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Essay and recommendations required. 1/31 Colorado State Scholarship Award (P.E.O. 1/31 Discover Scholarship Program: Up to 10 scholarships awarded of $40,000 each. Juniors with GPA 2.75+ may apply. Demonstrate community service and leadership as well as having overcome a significant obstacle in life. For more details please visit their website by clicking here.

1/31 The Princeton Prize in Race Relations: For students in grades 9-12 who do work in their schools or communities to improve race relations. Prize is $1,000 cash award and an all expense paid trip to Princeton University to attend the Princeton Symposium on Race. 1/31 Loveland Breakfast Optimist's Club Essay Contest: One $2500 scholarship will be awarded to the top district winner and others will be available at the international level. 2/1 Burger King Scholars Program: Several $1,000 scholarships awarded. Directed toward high school seniors who work part-time (minimum of 10 hours per week or 40 weeks per year). Minimum GPA 2.5. Financial need is a consideration. Must participate in community service. One Loveland High School senior who applies and meets the criteria will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. 2/1 (multiple deadlines, the earliest being 2/1) Daughters of the American Revolution (National): Multiple scholarships available for students majoring in Political Science, History, Government, Economics, Nursing, or Occupational Therapy. 2/1 National Wild Turkey Federation Conservation Scholarships: Senior pursuing a degree in natural resources, wildlife management or agriculture. Based on academic and community involvement. Must demonstrate leadership skills and involvement in clubs or organizations related to conservation. In addition, each recipient must show a vested interest in preserving the hunting heritage. 2/1 PAVE (promoting alternatives to violence through education): Scholarship for students who have survived and triumphed over physical, emotional or sexual abuse. 2/1 Society of Women Engineers (Rocky Mountain Section): At least one $500 scholarship will be awarded to a Colorado and/or Wyoming female high school senior who has been accepted for enrollment in a college or university that has an ABET accredited curriculum leading to a degree in engineering or computer science in fall 2010. 2/10 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program will be awarding scholarships in the amount of up to $5,000 per year (up to a total of $20,000) for high school seniors with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in the state in which they reside.  Must have minimum 2.75 GPA.  Must complete application and personal questionnaire.  Applications are available beginning December 1, 2009 at www.kfcscholars.org.

2/15 USA Funds Access to Education: Scholarships in the amount of $1500 awarded to students. The adjusted Gross Family Income must be $ 35,000 or less, 50% of scholarships will go to minority or disabled students. 2/15 Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation: Must be a student who has lost a parent due to breast cancer.  Student must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, plan to attend a state supported school in the state in which they permanently reside.   Judged on financial need, essay, letters of reference, community involvement, and academic achievements. 2/15 Oh the Places You’ll Go Scholarship Program: Scholarship is based on student who “values limitless possibilities that education can offer.” Student must be a 12th grader who will graduate in 2010. 2/15 Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund: Student must be Asian or Pacific Islander as reported on the US Census, must have a minimum of a 2.7 GPA, and be entering a two or four year school for the first time the following academic year. 2/15 Best Buy @ 15 Scholarship Program: Scholarship is available to students in grades 9-12 who have solid grades and involvement in volunteer community service. 2/15 National Commission for Cooperative Education Scholarship Program: One hundred seventy (170) $6,000 scholarships awarded. For students who have applied and been accepted to Drexel University, Johnson and Wales University, Keterring University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology. 2/16  McDonald's HACER Scholarship: High school senior with at least one parent who is of Hispanic heritage. 2/19 BBB/Rotary Ethics Scholarship Award: One $5,000 scholarship to awarded to a student during their 11th or 12th grade year to be used at a post secondary educational institution.  Application, 1500-2000 word essay, and brief biographical sketch are required to apply for this scholarship. 2/26 Junior Achievement – Rocky Mountain, Inc. (JA) is offering four-year college scholarships to four graduating seniors. These scholarships will only be awarded to students in Colorado who have participated in JA during high school.  The scholarship can be applied to most accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Each scholarship is $2,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, totaling $8,000 possible per recipient. For complete details please click here for the application.

2/26 County Sheriff’s of Colorado Scholarship: One $500 scholarship for a Larimer County resident. Any permanent legal resident of a Colorado (in participating counties), who plans to enroll in a vocational training program or institution of higher learning in the state of Colorado as a full- or part-time student for the 2010-11 school year is eligible.  One $500 scholarship recipient will also be chosen for an additional $1,000 scholarship.  For complete details and an application, please click here to visit the County Sheriff’s of Colorado website.

2/26 American Cancer Society Survivor Scholarship: The ACS awards $2500 scholarships to students who were diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21 and plan to attend an accredited 2- year, 4 year, or vocational school full time in the fall. 2/26 CORE "Que Llueva Cafe" Scholarship: CORE is awarding scholarships of $500-$1,000 to Chicano/Latino students whose residence is not documented in the United States. 3/1 American Chemical Society Scholars Program: Designed to help minority students who are interested in studies in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or chemically related fields and who show financial need. 3/1 CESDA Scholarship: Various $1,000 scholarships. First generation, member of an underrepresented ethnic or racial minority, and/or show financial need. Must be citizen or permanent resident and enroll at a 2 or 4-year Colorado college or university. Must have a 2.8 GPA or higher. 3/1 Colorado Mason's Benevolent Fund Scholarship: Up to $7,000 annually/renewable for up to 4 years. Must attend an accredited institution of higher learning in Colorado. Write a personal letter addressing future goals and objectives, financial need, and why you should be selected. Interview with local Masonic Lodge member must be completed prior to deadline. Leadership, scholastic achievement, initiative, family background and related financial need. Four letters of recommendation. 3/1 Colorado State University Monfort Scholarship: Must be admitted to CSU; score a 1300 or higher on the SAT or 30 or higher on Act, rank in the upper five percent of graduating class, leadership, character, service to school and community. For complete details and to apply, please click here.

3/1 Colorado State University First Generation Scholarship: Up to $4,000 per academic year (must be enrolled fuul time), possibly renewable. Must be admitted to CSU, freshmen or transfer students whose parents have not received a bachelor's degree and who demonstrate financial need, leadership, character, service to school and community. 3/1 University of Northern Colorado First Generation Scholarship:The First Generation Scholarship is worth $4,000. It is a renewable scholarship that is awarded to students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degrees. Selection is competitive and based upon financial need. 3/5 SAMMY Award Program "Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year": $7500 college scholarship/weekend in Washington, DC in June; opportunity to be pictured in a special Milk Mustache ad in USA TODAY and other national publications. Students are allowed and encouraged to nominate themselves. Judging will be based on four criteria: academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership and community service. 3/10 Patterson Fund Grants: The Patterson fund will provide a grant of up to $1,000 to a student to promote personal growth and development in an area that they excel in or have a genuine curiosityStudents will plan their own program.  Experiences may include college course work, language classes, travel, athletic and leadership camps, drama or music programs, church camps, medical work and volunteer programs. The proposal is for you to define. 3/15 Colorado Mason's Vocational Grant: One time grant of up to $3,000 used for a vocational training program within the State of Colorado. Harvard University may not be that far from reach...

If you or a family you know is earning less than $60,000 a year with an honor student graduating from high school soon, Harvard University wants to pay the tuition. The prestigious university recently announced that from now on undergraduate students from low-income families can go to Harvard for free... no tuition and no student loans! Keep in mind that some out of state schools offer scholarships and financial awards *exclusively* for non-residents!!! Here is a sample of what is available:

Iowa State University
Iowa State University offers a variety of awards specifically for students who are Colorado Residents and attend ISU.  Please see Miss Daniels in the Career Center for further details or visit: http://www.financialaid.iastate.edu/scholarships/search.php

Montana State University
