FACS Course Descriptions
TEACHER CADET I
Grades 11, 12
*Must be enrolled both semesters and have own transportation
Earn up to 6 transcribed college credits (Currently, UNC gives 3 FREE credits for a student who receives an “A”)
Prerequisite: 3.0 G.P.A. Application/Interview Process; three teacher recommendations and desire to teach any grade or curriculum area

Analyze learning styles and needs of learners

Understand special needs/exceptionalities of learners and challenges learners face within diverse backgrounds

Analyze the historical, social, political, philosophical, cultural, legal and economic forces of the public school system

Participate and experience the classroom by completing 50 contact hours, plus 15 enrichment hours
Teacher Cadet II
Grade 12 *Must have completed TCI with a “B” better
*Must be enrolled both semesters and have own transportation

Enhance their experience and understanding of classroom instruction and participate in a field
experience – 55 hours/semester, field contact time with mentor teacher – 65 hours/semester and 10
hours of classroom time

Identify components of effective climate, management, and discipline

Participate in teaching describe, analyze and reflect on their field experience
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION 101
Grades 10-12
*3 Transcribed credits can be earned with Aims Community

Explore career paths related to a variety of early childhood professions

Apply the eight universal core values to the needs of children from prenatal stages to age eight

Demonstrate a safe and healthy learning environment for children

Participate in the “Buddy-Up” program at the elementary schools
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION 102
Grades 10-12 *Must have completed ECE 101 with a “C” or better

Continue to study the developmental progression of children through the primary grades

Focus on career preparation for elementary age children

Continue with “Buddy-Up” activities and other out of class experiences with children (required)
